What it is
This is not a therapy or a single practice. It is a loose, creator-driven ecosystem of short videos, livestreams, paid readings, courses and product sales on TikTok, Instagram and similar platforms. It has three overlapping strands:
Format
- No source gives a treatment protocol, session count or duration for this work. The phases below are, built from the Cultural Formulation Interview (CFI) and standard assessment practice. Run them inside whatever therapy the client is already in. They are not a stand-alone programme.
- Format: individual sessions, plus parent or carer sessions for minors with the young person's assent.
Evidence status, as the guide reports it
- Evidence status (one line): no evidence that alien life has visited Earth. Spells, readings and manifestation have no demonstrated causal effect on outcomes. Higher manifestation belief was associated with self-reported bankruptcy and attraction to get-rich-quick schemes in correlational US data.
Questions to explore with your client
- What drew you to it, and what are you hoping it will change?
- Does it involve any substance, plant preparation, remedy or supplement? Has your doctor or prescriber been told, especially about any medication you take?
- Does it involve intense or unusual breathing? Have you been told about the medical conditions for which that is not advised?
- Does it involve fasting, a special diet or 'detox'? Have you discussed this with your doctor?
- Is it a group, retreat or community? How do they respond if someone wants to leave or raises a concern?
- Who runs it, and what training or registration do they hold?
- What actually happens in a session or meeting, and how often?
- What does it cost, and is there pressure to commit to more?
- How do you feel afterwards, in the hours and days that follow?
- Does it fit with, or clash with, the work we do here?
What practitioners of it watch for
- delayed diagnosis and stopping medication on a creator's advice. It is working when medical care continues.
- stalking or harassment behaviours and fear of being cursed oneself. It is working when anger finds safe expression.
- the client feeling you are censoring their faith. Frame it as their choice. It is working when the client curates actively.
- complicated grief, and readings that become the only contact with the loss. It is working when grief is held in human relationships as well.
- private contact with adult "mentors" and secret spending. It is working when the young person can talk openly with at least one trusted adult.
When to involve someone else
- New or worsening physical symptoms, or advice to stop or change prescribed medication: involve the client's doctor or prescriber.
- Signs of coercion, isolation from family and friends, escalating costs or secrecy: discuss openly and consider safeguarding.
- A crisis or thoughts of suicide: follow your crisis protocol. In the US, call or text 988; in the UK and Ireland, Samaritans on 116 123.
