What "healing" means here

The dominant conception across this domain is the restoration of flow, balance or harmony in a subtle energy that is held to sustain the body and to drive its own self-healing. Reiki frames low "life force energy" as going with stress and illness and healing as raising its flow XII-001; Therapeutic Touch, Healing Touch and Polarity therapy describe a "biofield" that illness congests or disturbs and that the practitioner rebalances XII-002 XII-003 XII-005; Eden Energy Medicine makes "flow, balance and harmony" the explicit marker of health XII-009. A closely related conception is removal or release: clearing "stuck energy", "trapped emotions" or "weaknesses" and blockages XII-010 XII-055 XII-021. In the energy-psychology family, healing means neutralising the emotional charge on a memory or changing a subconscious belief rather than treating a body field XII-037 XII-019 XII-053 XII-044. A spiritual conception runs parallel, where healing is energy or grace that comes through the healer from a higher Source, Spirit or "Creator" and the healer aims only to be a clear channel XII-026 XII-027 XII-028 XII-019. The homeopathic and remedy families define healing as stimulating the organism's vital force through "like cures like" and potentised preparations XII-056 XII-058 XII-067. A large diet-and-detox block understands healing materially, as purification — removing "toxins", starving disease, correcting acidity, oxygen or minerals XII-114 XII-127 XII-117 XII-140. The sharpest tension is between these attributed models and an evidence-informed, whole-person conception held by the integrative, lifestyle, functional and holistic-nursing entries, which define healing as care given alongside conventional treatment XII-172 XII-173 XII-171 XII-174. A second tension divides modalities that insist they "complement, not replace" medicine XII-003 XII-012 from the alternative-cancer practices the atlas documents as positioned to replace it, each written as a harm account XII-153 XII-156 XII-161.

What "the self" or "the person" is here

The signature image is the energy body: a physical body surrounded and interpenetrated by a field (aura, biofield) organised by centres (chakras) and channels (meridians, nadis) XII-002 XII-004 XII-024 XII-025. Some systems add further dimensions or layers — physical, etheric, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies, plus the hara and core star XII-012 XII-013. A second image is the person as an information or frequency system: a "bio-computer", a body-field that processes information along meridian-like channels, each tissue carrying a "frequency equivalent" XII-021 XII-082 XII-101 XII-073. The energy-psychology entries assume a mind with a belief-holding subconscious, sometimes storing inherited, ancestral or past-life material XII-019 XII-040 XII-055. The remedy and diet families picture a chemical person — a body whose cells need the right minerals, pH, oxygen or molecules XII-112 XII-066 XII-117 XII-159. Several entries set the person within nature or cosmos: carrying plant or mineral "vitality", reconnected to the Earth's energy, or tuned to cosmic waves XII-068 XII-071 XII-092 XII-077. Against all of these, the integrative and holistic-nursing entries hold a mind-body-spirit-emotion person inseparable from environment, with the client as expert on their own needs and an active participant in care XII-174 XII-172 XII-171.

Mechanisms of change the domain names

Grouped, the stated mechanisms are: energy balancing, resonance and entrainment — the practitioner holds a "high vibration" field the recipient's system is said to "rise to match", or passes a tuning fork through "turbulence" until it resolves XII-006 XII-020 XII-096 XII-081; channelling via attunement, in which the capacity to transmit energy is transferred by "attunement", "placement" or "ignition" XII-001 XII-008 XII-023; clearing or releasing blockages and trapped energy XII-010 XII-055 XII-021; and belief or memory change, framed variously as finding and replacing a "bottom" belief, disrupting a conditioned memory–emotion link, extinction of a failed Pavlovian response, or reading the subconscious by muscle testing XII-019 XII-044 XII-045 XII-053. A spiritual-transmission mechanism (grace, a "Heilstrom", energy from the spirit world) appears in the spiritual-healing cluster XII-026 XII-027 XII-036. The homeopathic mechanism is stimulation of the vital force by the similar, potentised remedy XII-056 XII-058 XII-062. The device and diet families assert material-physiological mechanisms — detoxification, oxygenation, alkalinisation, improved microcirculation, raised cellular ATP, or electromagnetic correction XII-127 XII-140 XII-084 XII-085 XII-073. Notably, most introductions mark the stated mechanism as "attributed, not established", and the harm accounts supply the actual chemistry instead (for example cyanide release from amygdalin, or an industrial bleach from "MMS") XII-152 XII-141. A quieter group attributes any change to relaxation, nervous-system down-regulation, expectation and the therapeutic relationship XII-097 XII-095 XII-173.

Shared techniques

Touch and hands-near field work is the domain's most characteristic technique: light touch or hands held just off the clothed body, reading and "rebalancing" the field XII-001 XII-003 XII-014. Attention and intention are near-universal — centring, "setting an intention for the client's highest good", holding a soft intent XII-003 XII-006 XII-020. A distinctive recurring cluster is tapping on acupoints and muscle testing (kinesiology), shared across energy psychology and the kinesiology-derived methods XII-037 XII-038 XII-047 XII-048 XII-054. Voice and sound form their own sub-field — toning, singing bowls, gongs, tuning forks and binaural beats XII-093 XII-094 XII-095 XII-099. Imagery appears as image cycling, re-entering and rewriting memories, and colour breathing XII-011 XII-042 XII-104, and breath as a way to amplify energy XII-006. Ritual session-structure recurs: cleansing the room and stones, pendulum checks, grounding and closing XII-108 XII-025. What most sets this domain apart from others in the atlas is its heavy reliance on ingested or applied substances and devices — remedies, essences, waters, supplements, diets and electronic machines — as the actual vehicle of healing XII-056 XII-067 XII-091 XII-079 XII-137. Group and community forms are also prominent: sound baths, mass and broadcast healing, distant-healing pools and multi-level-marketing networks XII-097 XII-036 XII-028 XII-124.

Developmental or stage models

This domain is strikingly thin on developmental or stage models of the person — the shared cross-domain index records essentially none for XII. What stands in their place are tiered practitioner-training curricula (levels or degrees), which rank the practitioner, not the client's growth: Reiki degrees, Healing Touch Levels 1–5, the Quantum-Touch "7-Level System", Pranic Healing's Basic/Advanced/Psychotherapy sequence, Biofield Tuning's four levels and Brennan Healing Science's four-year programme XII-001 XII-003 XII-006 XII-004 XII-096 XII-012. Where genuine staged schemes appear, they tend to classify disease or substance rather than development: homotoxicology's six-phase table and the homeopathic "miasms" XII-064 XII-056. Sankaran's Sensation Method names "Seven Levels of Experience" as depths of a patient's inner state XII-058. The clearest developmental map in the domain is Anodea Judith's psychological use of the seven chakras as a stage model worked through with yoga and bioenergetic exercises XII-024. Rite-of-passage framing is almost wholly absent.

Distinctive contribution

What this domain offers that the rest of the atlas largely lacks is a systematic, interchangeable vocabulary of a subtle energy body — aura, chakras, meridians, biofield — together with the single organising idea that health is flow and balance within it XII-002 XII-004 XII-009. It is also, uniquely, the domain built around ingested substances, worn objects, diagnostic gadgets and reading-tests as the means of healing, rather than around relationship, practice or insight XII-067 XII-079 XII-181 XII-137. And because so many entries are documented as unproven or harmful, it is the domain where the atlas most consistently carries an explicit regulatory and "attributed-not-established" frame, standing each practice beside its evidence and its regulators XII-141 XII-152 XII-161.
